Ugrad Web Evaluation: Summary of Suggestions
This is a summary of the kinds of suggestions/comments made:
- CGIs for the lab "maps" from the old cs319 www server should be
up again and updated. They're useful for locating where friends are
seated and which terminals are free.
- Pages are boring and space on each page is used inefficiently (there is
a lot of white space). Tables and/or frames should hold the links and
extra space can be filled with things like special announcements.
- Remove the Undergraduate Labs main page and replace it with the expanded
index.
- The bottom frame's graphics aren't properly designed and aligned.
- Cut the horizontal scrollbar on the bottom frame.
- Split the "courses" (course listings) file into term 1 and term 2 (like the
tutorial and lab schedule files)
- The pages look very formal
- Links to current research in the faculty are nice.
- There should be links to profs and their profiles.
- The "Above and Beyond" section name is misleading: the meaning seems to be
CS research, job opportunities, grad information.
- The links to the 95-96 calendar and Bus info in "Above and Beyond" don't
work.
- There should be more of a description as to what the UBC Phonebook actually
is.
- Scrap the frames. They're annoying, especially when you go back to the
introductory frame each time you hit the "Back" button on Netscape 2.02
- Photos of all grads. (For security reasons, this cannot be
implemented.)
- Old Books for sale page.
- Course Comments page
- Install another web server that's faster and from which students can run
CGI scripts
- Have quick flashing messages in "announcements" button. If users are
interested, clicking on that button should lead to the full announcements
page.
- Promote the CS colloquiums to the ugrads on the Undergraduate Web.
- There should be a lot more help and information on Printing.
- There should be more information about the 3rd and 4th year projects
(i.e. sample executables, online demos, future development ideas).
- Cut "Above and Beyond".
